FOR I AM APEP and I am not tethered by societies Age Many years...no one knows the exact amount Gender Male How can I hide in the shadows of the unknown? WHEN MY SCALES ARE PURE BLACK and my eyes are bloodred Scars None visible on his consistently shedding skin, but you can see the fighting scars from long ago in his bloodred eyes. Appearance Apep has a frightening quality of blending in to the darkest of the dark. His scales are either the blackest black or the darkest gray; no one has gotten close enough to tell and live. In reality, he is a normal-colored male adder, with a dusky gray background skin, and distinct black scales running along his back, all the way to his tail. His underbelly is made up of slightly lighter scales, but are too close to his normal grey color to tell the difference. His eyes are the most striking feature on his body, two pieces of bloody red on a black background. They have pupils that can dilate until his eyes look pure black instead of striking red. His eyes; if you ever see them and live; also have a fire in them that signifies battles fought long ago, and are more noticeable than any scar. His fangs are shining silver, dipped in invisible, yet so very lethal, poison. He doesn't need that to kill you, though. His bite alone, without the poison, can have you dead in a few minutes, mostly from blood loss. His intense physical strength also allows him to constrict and suffocate you into death. Overall, he is a snake you wouldn't want to meet in the shadows of night. Why do you judge me for what I’ll become? JUST BECAUSE I’M SILENT AND WAITING FOR MY CHANCE TO KILL Personality Apep has been taught to keep his voice away and stay in the shadows. He obeys this, but has added a special rule. Never let anyone get too close. He has inspired countless myths in the realm of both Cult and Clans about not going out at night, with the consequence of demons devouring you, and is silently proud of this. He tends to lurk in the shadows, awaiting an unlucky victim of his fangs. His policy is to wait before striking, think before speaking, mind before matter. But, once he does get his long-awaited chance to strike; once you get too close; he is an insanely fast whirl of lethal poison and fangs. Best case scenario: you get bitten in the jugular vein and die instantly. Worst case scenario: you get bitten in a not-so-major area, and spend the last minutes, hours, or days, depending on your willpower, screeching in agony. And once the death is done, he stashes the body in a sort of a disgraceful mass grave (a giant pit full of carcasses in different stages of decomposition). The smell of all the decay makes his mouth water, and so he rarely goes near it. His main diet isn't cats; he kills to kill, nothing more; but larger animals, including foxes, badgers, raccoons, and even some exceptionally large rats. He hates both Clans and Cult, for being in what used to be his territory and just being there. He has vowed to kill as many as possible, until both are tossed into the mass grave, never to be seen again. However, he is leaderless in doing this action, and seeks another to lead him into victory over the Clans and Cult. And so, he silently searches, leaving an impossibly cryptic trail of deaths and myths. Preferences Likes: Silence, death, darkness, the smell of rotting carcasses, war, the apocalypse. Dislikes: Loud noises, cats that come too close, the Clans, the Cult, cats in general, afterlives, light. Secret Ambitions To destroy all the Clans and the Cult, with another leading the way. Strengths/Weaknesses Strengths: His ability to melt into the shadows and be undetected by even the sharpest of eyes, his poison, his fangs, his immense muscular strength and ability to constrict and suffocate nearly anything, his speed in attacks. Weaknesses: His weakness toward bright light, his dislike of loud noises, his need for a leader. How am I punished for what my kin has done? EVEN IF MY PARENTS ARE GONE AND FORGOTTEN Family None that he remembers or cares about. History Apep was born to a set of parent snakes not to be called 'evil,' but definitely not to be considered 'good.' They were lone snakes, who knew of the great gods, and worshiped one of them; Apep. The demon snake god of darkness. They believed, as snakes, that Apep should rule over Ra, and prayed to him to inherit a mortal being; their son. Perhaps Apep heard their prayers, or perhaps it was just a coincidence, but their pure black son was born that moonless night. They dubbed him Apep and left him in the control of the god he was named after. He never saw his parents again. After that, he scorned his parents and went off into the opposite direction; into the shadows. He took a liking to this darkness, and fed upon mice and other prey in silent happiness. Once the sun came up, he hissed violently and hid inside a small rock crevice, unable to sleep under the light. He grew. Twice his first size, then larger and larger. A year passed. He felt like he could take on anything, and he did. A warrior patrol from long ago passed over his spot in the dark, and without a millisecond's hesitation, he struck. Poison engulfed all of them, and he suffocated them with his strength, ending their lives. His first real kill. Something about the cats had stirred something in him, and he wanted to, no, needed to, kill them all. He kept at this attitude for many years; more than he has bothered to count. But only recently, after so many cat deaths and careless tosses into a mass grave/pit, has he realized that he needs a leader. Someone to help him destroy both the 'Clans' and the 'Cult,' as he has learned they are called. Someone on the inside... He has searched far and wide for this being, and has never found it. Though he keeps at his goal, to destroy anything that gets close. Sample RP You remember the instructions given to you in your dream. It was all so clear; it had to be real. You replay the dream's voice again in your mind, just to make sure you have not forgotten it. A legend; created long ago by an unknown being in an unknown land; has this story written upon it. It is titled in a language unknown and long forgotten, but the rest is visible to all who see it. This is what you would find if you chanced upon its long lost and almost forgotten writing. You have been searching years for this. You think you might have found it, after all of this time. You see a giant slab of rock coated in dust. You wipe the dust away, and see the legend you were destined to see. The dream voice in your head begins speaking again, tuning in to the words on the stone. "Long ago, when the sun god Ra ruled benevolently over all the lands, he and the dark god Apep were opposites, but not enemies. For generations, Ra had been content with ruling the sun and getting the respect of the people, and Apep had been content with keeping the quiet life of ruling the darkness and living in shadows. Apep never saw the surface, and was believed to be gone by most of the beings of the land. Even the almighty Ra forgot his name and dishonored him by forgetting his unmistakable presence. This enraged Apep. He stirred within the confines of his underworld lair, and rose to the surface to punish Ra for forgetting his name. He wreaked havoc among the beings; wrecking their land in vengeful violence and destroying whole villages in one strike. The people prayed to Ra, and Ra came forth to halt Apep's evil. Ra came down upon the land bathed in light, which the snake Apep hated. Ra asked his opposite why he was attacking the world, and Apep hissed back his reason. Ra tried to console Apep, but he was too full of hatred for the generations of beings who had forgotten him. He struck out at Ra, and the sun dimmed at the dark blow. Ra fought back, with godly weapons, and the war began. Each had advantages and disadvantages. Ra, being the god of gods, had immense strength. Apep, being the god of shadows, had immense speed. At night, when the sun left the sky, Apep had won the battle, and reigned supreme, giving horrible nightmares to the sleeping beings below. When the sun resumed its position in the sky, Ra gained his strength again, and the battle raged on. Sometimes, Apep would overpower Ra even in the daylight, and the sun would be completely overshadowed. Ra got his strength back quickly under these circumstances, and so these overshadows of the sun only lasted for a few minutes. Both were powerful, and both were fighting to kill. The battle lasted a year. Winter passed, with the beings below frozen and scared, when the sun had so little time to be up before Apep's dark night reigned again. Summer passed, with the beings sweltering hot and too tired to pray, while Apep's short, but deadly, nights froze them in their sleep. Finally, an outcome came. Both gods were tired from the long fight, but both had the determination to call a winner. When the weather was mild, and both gods were equal, on the spring equinox, Ra had an idea. Apep, unaware of this idea, also came up with a plan, believing that Ra would slay him eventually. With both plans in mind, Ra transformed into a godly cat, and slew Apep by biting off his head. The beings below cheered. Life returned to normal for the beings. Ra went back to his godly kingdom, and Apep's body disintegrated into black smoke. However, Apep still lived. His deadly plot was in motion. Apep would wait, for however many eons it took, for Ra to take a mortal form as a cat, and then, he would strike, taking his form of a lethal snake, and kill every cat in the land until one of their deaths caused the sun to be overshadowed. Then, finally, no one would forget his name, and he would reign supreme forever. And so he rests in an eternal slumber, waiting for his chance to rule once more." The voice continues, even after the legend of Ra and Apep has been finished. And there, the legend ends. With a warning to all who wish to live in the light of Ra, and stay out of the demonic darkness of Apep. Hold this warning dear to you; when he rises once more, it will be all you have. But until then, darkness has lost to the light, and the sun still shines. You notice a few more marks are scratched into the surface, as if by a lethal sharp object. Your dream's voice speaks for them too. Until then, dear reader. Until then... The voice morphs into a deafening hissing. Darkness engulfs the whole of the world as you know it, and you see no more.
