Morning. Fresh, clear and milky in colors. The sky was filled with the creams of oranges, reds and pinks. The sun was coming over the horizon making the usual blue sky into a mix of lovely colors. Though, Iceclaw really didn't care about the beauty of the sky, he just quickly noticed it before getting bored of looking up. Mewing, he walked slowly, as he walked through the shores. Memories of finding his mate dead, bearing his kits and not having no say to it, killed the white tom. It just wasn't fair, a father is what he wanted to be, and thus he couldn't because of his position of deputy, he couldn't tell the secret and gain his kits, well at least two out of three were living in the camp. Rainkit, the white she-cat, with dull blue eyes, just like his, expect he was more brighter, but still they looked alike, besides her fur was thinner and not as plush
as her fathers. Smiling, she was a character. Always having a smart reply with her feisty attitude. Though she seemed to be the good one out of the three, though mothkit was a nice, caring young one, something about Rainkit attracted him to her. Maybe because they looked exactly alike, with personalities different. Though, it seemed all his kits had their own personality, but all having the same feisty attutide as Silverclaw and himself have. Poor, Silverlcaw... he loved her, and bearing his kits she died. Guilt and frustration shot through Iceclaw, and for that he hated Starclan even more then what he did before. Snorting, slowly he walked through the Soulclan territory, bored and looking for something to do.

what am I doing? what am I saying? what am I thinking? what are they saying?
Pain filled her mind and she, startled, jumped up to the low ceiling and smashed her head. She groggily discovered that some cat had bit her tail in their sleep, and meowed in pain. The few cats that were light sleepers instantly awoke to say 'shut up,' and went back to sleep. She sighed, and quietly stepped outside, tripping on a rock she didn't see. Cursedflight sighed. Just another 'cursed' morning. If only she could be leader...then no one could tell her what she couldn't do! She cleared her vision and stretched, her head pointed up at the multicolored dawn sky. The sun peeked out behind a cloud, and Cursedflight's eyes shut tightly from the light. Mornings. How beautifully annoying they were. It looked like everyone who wasn't asleep in the den were sleeping outside. Some were basking in the morning light, snoozing in the dew-filled grass. She shook her head, amused others were slightly. Why didn't they just sleep in their own den? She decided to send herself hunting to kill some time. It was the one thing in life she didn't seem to screw up.
She padded outside camp, ears perked and tail held erect. Once she had walked far enough so that camp looked like a distant memory, she slid back into the grass and waited. Her ears picked up a rustling bush, and her eyes trained on the sound's source. A blackbird, and a fat one at that, was pecking at a seed. Back turned. Cursedflight positioned herself in the hunter's crouch, and pounced silently onto the bird, killing it with a quick bite to the neck before it could cry out. That's one. she said to herself, and when her ears and eyes saw a mouse searching for food, she smiled. And that's two. She pounced on the unsuspecting mouse, which let out a quiet squeak before its death. She quickly thanked StarClan for both prey, and buried the two. She caught a vole in the same manner, and a big fat squirrel as well, the prize of the bunch. She thought four was enough.
A sharp cry interrupted her rejoicing. She looked up, and a hawk was spying on the food she had buried. Cursedflight's eyes narrowed. Come and get it, birdie. Just try. she thought, and prepared to fight for her food. The hawk dove with breathtaking speed, and Cursedflight clawed a tear in its wings. It shrieked and paused for a second to address the wounds. In the second it had paused, she clamped her jaws around its neck and broke it. That makes five. Heh heh. Cursedflight laughed triumphantly, then stopped when the wind shifted, revealing a scent of cat. She whipped around toward the scent. I know you're there. Who are you? she commanded, showing power in her voice. Where had that come from? And what do you want?
She narrowed her eyes toward the presence of her intruder. She couldn't make out who it was, but it smelled of SoulClan, so she sheathed her claws. Her shoulder winced. She saw blood from the corner of her eye; the hawk must have scratched it without her notice. She'd get Gazelleheart to check that later. She licked the blood from her shoulder, and halted the bleeding. Her ears pricked for signs of movement.
Who dares intrude on my hunting grounds? Cursedflight thought angrily. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Hearing a shriek, Iceclaw looked around and saw a hawk swoop down, blinking in amazing, he saw the hawk attack a cat that was a good five fox lengths away from him, in the thickets of the brush. His brows turned in as a confused look covered his face. Running to the scene, he saw the blue gray cat stand over the dead body of the hawk. Blue eyes blinked in astonishment as he saw the dirt piles of kill surround the she-cat. Smiling, a chuckle came from the white male's jaws. Hello, Cursedflight, He said slowly and softly, his eyes stood on the hawk, as a expression of pleasantness and shock was on his face, as he just witness this she-cat take down a hawk. Well, done. He said, nodding at the hawk that she stood over. A smile covered his face, as the deputy sat down. Wrapping his tail around his paws, Iceclaw looked around for anything else that decided to attack the blue grey
female. Well looks like someone good at hunting, He praised the she-cat, with words of excitement and enjoyment. So, why aren't you sleep, Cursedflight?! He asked, looking up at the sky. It was early morning, she should be sleep instead of hunting, or so Iceclaw thought. Though, Iceclaw hated Starclan, he loved his clan, he just hated the other clans. His clan he took respect in and the cats around him, he never would disrespect anyone unless it was coming to them, and that would be his claws across their faces. Iceclaw loved fighting, a fight is what Iceclaw craved, but he wouldn't openly attack a cat for no reason- that was against the warrior code, and to keep his exterior secret he needed to follow the stupid code.

what am I doing what am I saying? what am I thinking? what are they saying?
The tom approached. Cursedflight's superior and cold gaze softened. Iceclaw. Deputy. Envy filled her mind; how she wished for that spot in the world! Maybe someday...when Lavastar passed away, Iceclaw would become Icestar...and then perhaps...she could become...no. She shouldn't hope for the impossible. What kind of leader would make a cat with the first name 'cursed' their deputy? Iceclaw wouldn't...that was reality, and Cursedflight would have to accept that.
Hello, Cursedflight. Was he actually saying hello to her? Someone bite me, I must be dreaming. Well, looks like someone's good at hunting. So, why aren't you asleep, Cursedflight?! Her eyes narrowed. Was that a threat? As if they wanted her do something better. Hunting for the Clan was what she was good at, and she had just caught a hawk, for StarClan's sake! So why in the world would he be threatening her about sleep? She glared, her mind racing for an answer.
I had an unfortunate case of a warrior's jaws clamping on my tail. She meowed, stone-voiced and wary. The pain woke me up. And, since the rest of the Clan was either sleeping inside a den or snoozing outside a den, I decided to do something useful and hunt. I was successful with this, was I not, Iceclaw? A fat squirrel, a blackbird, a mouse, a vole, and of course, a hawk? Seems like I've done more alone than this Clan has today. Not to be offensive or anything. She actually was trying to be offensive, as if the Clan's doings was Iceclaw's responsibility alone. But why would she say that to the deputy? Her subconscious added the last part to avoid trouble.
She smiled slyly, showing, in full view, the adult hawk lying dead at her feet. That could give the Clan a feast with all of its meat. And what had Iceclaw done? Nothing but stare at her from the shadows. I think that this is a bit more productive than sleeping. she finished with a wider grin. Her multicolored tail flicked at the hawk in front of her. She decided that insulting the tom and his Clan would be a bad way to end the conversation, so she thought up a plausible response to her own comment. Mind helping me with hunting? The Clan could always use food, especially with so much of it here. She smiled in a welcoming format now, and was torn between waiting for a reply and going off now. She decided to wait.
While she waited, her mind did a somersault with happiness. Here she was, hunting, and she caught a hawk right in front of the deputy! And now, he was actually talking to her! She still had a chance to win his favor...and maybe be the next deputy! No, not yet. Still impossible. Anyone could catch a big animal and easily outshine her. But...she had a chance. And that was all that mattered. She'd start hoping if she found an instant cure for ringfur, drove all the foxes out, and then fought a bear and won with no injuries. Still impossible, and she shouldn't get her hopes up yet. Unexpectedly, she felt a pang of loss. It tore away at her insides, and she had to force herself not to pass out.
Cursedflight shut her eyes. She didn't want Iceclaw to see any emotion that might wander into them. Sparrowkit's image replaced the blank darkness, and her throat choked on future conversations. Her best friend...her brother...she had killed him. She hadn't meant to; she didn't know. But she had killed him. Blackpaw. She was dead too, but she had tried so hard. Tried just to fail at her cursed paws. Tried to help her sister...who's very name was a banishment. She, who was the last to know her true name. Cloudkit. Foxtalon...Nestfeather...her own parents...they had hated her, and died by the curse they gave her. But they were still her parents. She didn't deserve this kind of love, only to be lost. She deserved to be treated like her mentor, Coaleyes, treated her. No! She snapped her eyes open, and out of this painful reverie. She couldn't be thinking bad thoughts now. The past was over, and it would never return.
Her curse would never return. It would never come back to kill off anyone else who had had a good shot at life. She couldn't ever let that happen again. Even to her worst enemies. Even to the other Clans. No one should ever feel that pain. She should never feel that pain. No one would die at her paws ever again. But, since this was the present, she turned her smile back on, realizing that it had faded in the reverie's sadness.
She had to look her best; the future leader was here. There was no time for daydreaming.

A smirk covered his white face as he listen to her speak. Someone bit you, huh? He purred, laughing over so slightly. Nodding, to what she was saying it was true. She was doing more right now then the clan did in a whole day. Very good, very, very good! He spoke with pleasure in his smooth, icy voice. Iceclaw, looked at the blue grey female, she was attractive and ever so pretty. Nodding once again, he purred at her response. It's very productive then sleeping, I just wanted to make sure you were okay. Usually no one up this time of day besides myself. It's rare seeing another face outside the camp in this early in the morning. He replied to her softly, his eyes full of friendship and caring expressions. The white gave a long purr, as his chat with Cursedflight was a joyful one. It was awhile sense he talked to someone and it
felt good. I don't mind hunting with you, Cursedflight! He spoke, getting up for his sitting position, Iceclaw quickly turned into a hunting crouch. His belly touched the cool grass that was under him. Jogging off, Iceclaw weaved through the grass and tree stumps to find some kind of kill. Before he even knew it the white tom was stumbling upon a squirrel. Growling, the tom hissed and sprung upon the creature. The squirrel escaped his leap but within a blink of an eye, Iceclaw's paw lashed out and snagged the brown furred animal with his claws. The squirrel went flying back into a tree trunk, leaping around Iceclaw pounced on the it and bit down on it's next. A church pierced the silences as it's neck broke. Blood dripped in the mouth of the Deputy, and his belly growled with hunger.

what am I doing? what am I saying? what am I thinking? what are they saying?
Cursedflight blinked, shocked. Here she was, catching a hawk, overusing power she didn't have, and the deputy, Iceclaw, was praising her?! Had he said yes to her offer? Or was this all some twisted trick of her mind? She lightly clawed her back leg with keen claws. Yowch! Not dreaming after all... she thought.
A smile broadened across her face, unacknowledged by Cursedflight. It morphed to a laugh, a slight, but happy one. She watched him run ahead of her with his speedy stature, and he snagged a squirrel easily. Blood dripped from the lifeless prey, and she heard his stomach growl. She ran up to him, after carefully burying the hawk and reburying the prey. She laughed again, and her eyes brightened. Getting a bit hungry, are we? she purred, amused. Well, don't let the blood ruin the kill, and wait till we get back to eat it! C'mon! Let's see if we can find more. We're bringing in a feast today! Cursedflight had a feeling she hadn't felt in a long time. Optimism. Happiness. Friendship.
She'd have to make it count. After all, what was friendship if only for a sec...no. She couldn't finish that statement. She had been friends for so short a time, yet the memory of that friendship nearly brought tears of joy to her eyes. Blackpaw mattered. Sparrowkit mattered. And Iceclaw mattered too. She had newfound respect for the deputy of SoulClan; he seemed so friendly! She bounded ahead of him and stopped, sniffing for prey-scent. She whipped her head around to the scent of...what was that again? Robin? Blue jay? She pounced on the bird, whatever it was, eyes closed. She was going to impress the deputy. She followed her nose and ears, and landed silently, an approximate two fox-lengths from the bird. She struck out, a blur of blue, green, and grey, and snagged the bird. Its neck snapped. It was gone from this world.
Her eyes flashed open, and tried to shut again from what she had seen. A sparrow. It had been a sparrow. And here it was, just like her brother had been, broken on the earth. She didn't let tears come out; it was just a piece of food, ready to be eaten. But she could never forget him. Her first friend. Her first loss. The cause of her name. This was not it. It was an adult sparrow, eyes wide open, and legs twisted in two odd directions. She smiled, words forming again in her throat. Got it, Iceclaw! That's another one. In her mind the words spoken had felt twisted, unrecognizable. But in reality, they sounded unlike her. Friendly, unexposed to loss. This wasn't Cursedflight.
Losses weren't important now. She had to keep up with this good work. First a bounty, then a hawk, then a sparrow...with her eyes closed. Perhaps...she had a chance at becoming deputy after all. Perhaps she could still live her dream! She brightened her eyes and smiled to Iceclaw. Your turn! she meowed joyously.
Losses, hopes, and dreams. All an important part of her life, and all with devastating consequences.

I don't remember the last time i eat! Iceclaw purred, his blue eyes glistening as he stared into Cursedflight's eyes. You know, you're so pretty. Your eyes...they just sparkle in the sunlight. Iceclaw purred, as he smiled, with a twitch of his tail though he was off again in the grass. A sneaky smile covered his face as he didn't want to hear her reaction nor see it. He wanted to run and hide for the fear of her freaking, but he knew that she wouldn't. Iceclaw moved around the grass and another scent came to him. Lifting up in the grass, the white cat looked around, and within a few fox lengths in front of him stood Rainkit. His heart pounded against his chest as he wondered why his kit was outside the camp. Rainkit! He called out, his voice hard and stern, but his eyes were full of love and welcoming expression.
What are you doing outside of the camp?! You know this is very dangerous! Iceclaw growled. He watched the kit jump up in the air from his voice startling her. Laughing slightly, he knew how sweet she was. Turning around, the kit blue eyes grew big as she looked at the white deputy. Um...I..i..I was.. She couldn't finish fast enough before Iceclaw scooped her up by the nap of her fur. C'mon. She purred as she tired to sway herself out of the jaws of the white deputy, but Iceclaw would not let go. Walking over to Cursedflight, he dropped the kit next to them. Look what i found! He said, as Rainkit sat there with big blue eyes that had a fire in them. Iceclaw! I can walk on my own! She said, spitting with her fur puffed out. Iceclaw
laughed at her attitude and shook his head. Hush, little one. He said, eyes shining with love. As he looked up to Cursedflight, another smile came to his face. Rainkit looked up to the blue she-cat, and she twitched her tail in a welcoming. Hi, Cursedflight! She purred.

what am I doing? what am I saying? what am I thinking? what are they saying?
Cursedflight smiled. Of course Iceclaw hadn't eaten in a while; it was early in the morning! He hadn't eaten all night, and maybe not dinner before then. She let her eyes smile too, as if this cat she hadn't really met in her life was her best friend. Maybe they could be friends. Maybe she had a shot at deputy. Maybe her life could improve. Just a little. Maybe her curse was finally lifting!
You know, you're so pretty. Your eyes...they just sparkle in the sunlight. Iceclaw purred. Cursedflight blinked in confusion, and in that time, her brain figured out that Iceclaw was flattering her! Flirting with her! No one had ever done that before. Her mind raced. What do I do? He's flirting with me. But what about being deputy? That won't work between us. Uh...uhh... She decided to let her subconscious handle this; she obviously wasn't getting anywhere with her inner mind fumbling at a thought. She whipped her head back toward Iceclaw, and politely said her thanks. Phew. Like a polite 'no, I don't want a relationship with you.' She relaxed her tense mind and was about to focus on hunting when a squeak reached her ears.
Rainkit. She knew the kit was there before Iceclaw began yelling at her. As if...he was her father? They did look a bit similar. But then why would Iceclaw be flirting with her? They couldn't be related. Iceclaw unceremoniously bought over Rainkit, who seemed unhappy, but still had a gleeful fire in her eyes. She liked that. Rainkit would become a powerful apprentice, and then a strong warrior. The fiery kit beamed up at Cursedflight and said hi. Meeting quite a few friends today, aren't I? Haha... she thought, smiling. Hello, Rainkit. she purred, bowing as if the kit was the leader of the world. You're looking energetic. I'm betting that your apprentice ceremony isn't far off! She turned to Iceclaw, keeping her friendly smile. She should come with us. If you learn early, you'll finish early! And don't pick her up like that. She shouldn't be handled like a child any more. Honestly. You looked like her father, picking her up by the scruff like that! Cursedflight laughed at the preposterous thought. Now come on, the both of you. Let's see if we can bring a huge banquet for SoulClan today!
She flicked her greenish-blue tail warmly over Rainkit's head, and padded forward with a bounce in her step that she hadn't felt since her friendship with Sparrowkit. Ah, memories. How you haunt me and fill me with joy in the best and worst of times... she thought, and she sniffed for prey, her confidence limitless, now that friends surrounded her body and mind.

Rainkit smiled as Cursedflight said hello. She kept quiet for a few moments as her eyes shined with fire in them. Purring to her next comment, Rainkit nodded. Yes! Yes, I'm ready to go kicked some Aspenclan butt! She growled, jumping up and leaping into a crouch. Her fur prickled up as her paw lashed out at an imaginary Aspenclan warrior. Turning around. the small kit looked up towards the leader. Rainkit was so small compare to someone that was her age, but that didn't stop her from being a energetic, fiery kit with no fear in her at all. Iceclaw realized this, and a small smile covered his face. Oh, i wish i could tell her the truth. Thought Iceclaw, emotional pain rushed through him of the thought of his kits not knowing who their father was. Then Cursedflight suggested that Rainkit came with them on the hunting trip.
Nodding, Iceclaw agreed with a purr. ]Sure, you can come with us, just stay by me. He said in a deep, stern voice that was full of love. And don't pick her up like that. She shouldn't be handled like a child any more. Honestly. You looked like her father, picking her up by the scruff like that! Cursedflight next's words surprised Iceclaw, it dumbfounded and knocked him off his mental feet. Blinking blue eyes, Iceclaw gave the grey blue cat a narrow eyed look. They don't have a father nor a mother, mine as well someone stands up the plate and acts like one for them. He growled, his tail lasing out with annoyance to himself, that he had to keep in the secret. It wasn't along the lines of him caring about the warrior code as much as it was about
him losing his place in Deputy. He needed to be deputy for his plan to work out, and he couldn't, wouldn't let some kits get involved in that even if it was his blood or not. Rainkit listened closely as the sound of 'mother' and 'father' and 'not having' came to her ears, a heavy huff came from her. I wish i knew them... She said softly, her eyes turning dull as her head went limp and a deep sadness came over her. At least I have my sisters. She said, cheering up again. Blinking light eyes, Rainkit looked up to the warriors around her. So you're gonna teach me how to hunt?! She purred, jumping up and letting her parents get shoved to the back of her mind. Purring, Rainkit ran off towards a small clump of ferns and leaped at them. Shredding the leaf with
she sharp claws. HA! Rainkit said loudly, her tail lashing out in excitement. Iceclaw noticed the kit went from sadness to happiness in one point two seconds, and he saved that in a mental note. It seemed off, maybe she had some sort of mental illness? Biting his lip, Iceclaw walked a little ways towards a bush. Come on, Rainkit, we'll show you how to hunt. He called over towards the white kit. And she followed with a bounce in her walk, joyful and happy to be learning how to hunt a moon or so earlier than normal.

what am I doing? what am I saying? what am I thinking? what are they saying?
Cursedflight's smile had faded slightly over Iceclaw's annoyed tail-twitching at her comment about Rainkit and Iceclaw being related. She let the subject go, and watched Rainkit seem to bounce with excitement about her first hunting journey. She let her grin return, and her own eyes seemed to light a fire inside themselves, as if she was doing her first hunting session too. She sniffed for prey, and found a scent a few fox-lengths ahead. She turned to Rainkit. Now, we have to be very quiet. The prey is nearby, and we don't want to scare it. Cursedflight whispered, enjoying the time she spent with the kit as if she was her mentor. Take a big sniff. Smell the prey. It's just a few pawsteps ahead. Now, be very, very quiet with your steps, and let's go see what it is.
Cursedflight beckoned silently with her tail, and her teal eyes focused on the road ahead. She halted them when she saw the prey; a vole; nibbling on a seed up ahead. Now, see how the vole is nibbling on a seed? It doesn't see us or hear us, so we can practice the hunting crouch and pouncing while it nibbles. And, as long as we don't make much noise, it won't run. Watch closely, as I demonstrate the hunter's crouch. This is the position you take when you see prey and think you can pounce on it. Never go for prey you don't think you can get. Like if it is up a tree or about to take off. It's not good for you're mind to fail." Cursedflight stepped aside so that Rainkit could move in a position where she could copy Cursedflight.
Cursedflight crouched down, sticking her back end in the air ever so slightly. Now. Keep your tail level so as not to alarm the vole. Keep your legs alert and then spring towards the prey. Catch it in your teeth and chomp down hard until it stops making noise. Once you're an apprentice, you will be able to break the prey's neck instantly, but let's start with this now. Just crouch your legs like a spring, then release the energy and catch that vole!" Cursedflight whispered energetically. She backed up and silently mimicked the springing motion. Now you try. she told Rainkit. She didn't expect Rainkit to catch the vole on her first lesson, but hey, there was always a possibility.
After all, anything was possible, right?
