Surprised, nearby cats looked towards it in surprise, but paid no mind and returned to their duties, even when another cry split the air like the swipe of a hawk's talons. Within the nursery, Littlewhisker lay on her side, her belly swollen, sides heaving with exertion. Pain rippled through her in swift contractions, and her head fell to the side as she unleashed another wail. "Great StarClan in Silverpelt!" she cried. "This hurts worse than a snakebite..." She caught her breath for a brief moment and fixed her emerald gaze on Strickenflame. "You are never doing this to me again." It felt quite cramped in the little nursery. Silversoul, the medicine cat, and her apprentice Sandpaw were attending as their duties demanded. Strickenflame stood nearby, though kept at a safe distance, and Littlewhisker knew that outside the den her brother Scarredstar was listening diligently. It was rare for him to leave his duties for anything, and she was grateful he was in attendance, though he'd politely given the other cats space. He's a good cat, she thought, but her attention was swiftly sucked away as another painful contraction pierced her. How long would she have to endure this terrible pain? It was nearly unbearable. -x-x-x- It felt like moons later when finally, it was all over. Littlewhisker lay exhausted, and curled against her belly were three tiny bundles of fluff. One was calico, like his mother. Surprisingly a male, the smallest kit of the litter cuddled tight into her white fur. Another was a grey tabby, with faint sprays of orange fur across her little cheeks, with a bit of darker mottling on her coat. The last, and the biggest, was a ginger tabby, just like his father. Despite the pain she had just gone through, joy filled her at the sight of her kits. In the face of all the pain, it was worth it. She wrapped her tail around them and rested her head on her paws. Silversoul lean forward to Littlewhisker's kit. She sniffed each one trying to smell sickness on them. She was happy they all smelt normal and were all suckling from their mother. She let out a small purr to Littlewhisker.

"Well done, Littlehisker, you have three healthy kits, a she-cat and two toms," She lean to Littlewhisker and licked her forehead. "You will need boarge to make sure you keep producing milk. I can get you poppy seeds if you need them, although I suggest against it."

Silversoul turned her calming ble glaze to Sandpaw, her apprenitce, who she might add hates her. This made training the young tom extra hard. "Now Sandpaw, lean forward and sniff the kits, that is what newborn kits should smell like. sometimes you can smell illness of them, but these three are quite healthy and strong." She stood onto her paws. "Once you take in the scent, follow me so I can show you what borage looks like."

She pushed her way out of the crowned den and head toward the medicine den and pulled out some blue flowers that look like stars. Once she saw Sandpaw she nodded. "This is Borage, they come in pink too." She picked up the flower and headed back to the nursery.

Oh StarClan, oh StarClan, oh StarClan....

Chanting these words beneath his breath, Strickenflame (more-or-less) charged into the nursery, nearly trampling over a petite queen in his hurry (passing by, the tom yowled an apology over his shoulder), and skidding on a wet patch of moss, only to come to a complete and hasty stop in front of his mate, squirming kits and all. “Littlewhisker…” the tom gasped, giving her a precautious once-over before padding closer; taking care not to step on a fragile tail or paw. She looked… tired, which was to be expected (she had just given birth, for StarClan’s sake! What was he supposed to expect?), but otherwise, the tiny calico couldn't have looked any more beautiful; even if Strickenflame wasn’t blinded by mindless love and devotion. He reached down to give her the gentlest of nudges, whiskers twitching as they brushed up against her cheek, then turned his attention towards the kits.

The kits - oh, the kits... He had never seen a more beautiful, healthy litter in his life! Or such an utterly perfect one: from their smooth pink pads to their silky pelts, there wasn’t a flaw to be seen. StarClan... the brawny deputy murmured one last time, amber eyes widening as he hungrily took in the tiny trio. A scrap of ginger blazed next to a swathe of delicately mottled gray, peachy orange cheeks glowing with newfound life and sustenance. There was an uncanny similarity between the two toms, that was for sure - but honestly, Strickenflame found himself adoring the unusual calico pattern of the other tom-kit instead, in plain, undivided awe at its resemblance to Littlewhisker; sheesh, talk about modesty!

Besides that small pleasure, the tom couldn’t have cared less if they were furless, two-legged, or even blind - they were Littlewhisker’s kits, not to mention his own (c’mon, the guy deserved a bit of credit, even if he didn’t want it), and, in all honesty, that was enough for him.

He was happy that they were healthy, though…

Beaming, Strickenflame turned back to his mate. “They’re beautiful, Littlewhisker!” he purred, eyes narrowing in merriment. ”Can you believe the coloring of that little tom-kit? StarClan, I’ve never seen anything like it!” Taken by enthusiasm, the hefty tom grinned. Kits. Who could of believed it?
